We are proud to announce our new runtastic routes feature. Now you can create a route for your next activity on runtastic.com and then sync it to your runtastic iPhone or Android app. In our website’s routes section you can set up routes manually with the help of useful tools like anchor points, a snap to road function and much more. With these tools you can quickly and easily set up your customized route. Another option is to generate routes out of already tracked and existing activities.

Ways to setup a route:

+ Create a manual route
+ Generate routes from existing activities

The process of setting up routes is easy to do and works like this:

1) Set up routes with km/mile markers

2) Save route, add name, description and more details

3) Find the route in the “My Routes” section on runtastic.com and flag them if you want to sync it to the runtastic app (iOS/Android)

After setting up, editing and saving your route you can flag it and it will be automatically synced to your runtastic app as shown in the following screen.

The new routes feature allows you to see your flagged, completed and created routes in addition to further information like weather conditions, elevation and much more. If you set your routes to public other people can view, flag and rate them. Look for other public routes in your area or if you are traveling and get new ideas and inspirations for your next activity.

runtastic Partners with MyFitnessPal to Offer App-to-App Integration

No Comments Posted in: runtastic all about | October 18, 2012

A rigorous exercise schedule helps you maintain your ideal weight, but how much you eat is just as important. Sometimes, a calorie-torching workout can feel like an excuse to eat that sinful slice of chocolate cake you’ve been craving, but how do you keep from overcompensating? Tracking calories is a great way to ensure you’re not consuming more calories than you burn.

That’s why runtastic has teamed up with the like-minded fitness resource MyFitnessPal. MyFitnessPal, a free tool to help people improve their health, lets users log daily food consumption and report workouts. Through new partnerships with runtastic and a select group of other companies, users can more accurately incorporate physical activity into their calorie logs online or via mobile devices.

With the debut of MyFitnessPal’s application programming interface (API), runtastic users can seamlessly sync real-time exercise data to MyFitnessPal. This app-to-app integration is available in the newest versions of runtastic’s Pedometer and runtastic apps. Users of both apps will now have a more complete view of their overall health.

We’re proud to be working with MyFitnessPal, as runtastic is always looking for new ways to help our users reach their health and fitness goals. Whether you want to shed a few pounds or make sure you’re eating enough to fuel your race training, monitoring nutrition is important.

Don’t forget to upgrade your runtastic app, and download MyFitnessPal from the App Store or Google Play.

Learn more on how to connect to MyFitnessPal in our apps as well as on runtastic.com here:

26.2 with runtastic

On Sunday, October 7, a record 37,455 runners completed the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. runtastic enthusiast Bradley Wyatt recounts his experience training for and running the Chicago Marathon, with a little help from a certain running app:

This past weekend I engaged in one of the most mentally and physically challenging races I have endured in over a year; I ran the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. All my hard work, my hours of training in the rain, snow and summer’s heat was about to pay off. I mastered the pace I planned to run—all thanks to runtastic PRO.

I used runtastic PRO to track my entire 26.2-mile race and keep me on pace. I set runtastic’s voice feedback feature to update me on my progress, and every half mile, I heard my split, total distance and overall time. If I started to slow down or speed up, I could adjust my pace and get back on track.

With thousands of marathon participants, it’s often difficult for spectators to pick their favorite runner out of the crowd. But because I enabled runtastic’s live tracking feature at the beginning of my run, my friends and family were able to see where I was at any given moment of the race. The app posted a link (with my permission, of course) to my social media pages. From that, friends could access my runtastic profile, see my progress, and pick a place to watch me run by. runtastic takes the all guesswork out of watching a runner.

runtastic not only made my race easier but helped me in the many months of preparation. Long runs, track workouts and hills took over my life as I trained for the big race in October. I used runtastic to get used to my desired pace so I wouldn’t start out too fast or too slow. Some training runs took me through thick forests, but I didn’t lose signal once. Even when I had a weak signal, the app was smart enough to figure out where I ran and fill in the blanks so I didn’t have to.

Overall the app was a life saver. My goal was to average 8:30 a mile for 26.2 miles, and I ended up averaging 8:32 a mile – right on target. I would not have been able to pace myself without runtastic. Thanks for helping me train and keeping my cheer squad in the loop!

Congrats, Bradley! Who else has used runtastic to help train for a race, or enabled live tracking to receive cheers and encouragement throughout a marathon? Let us know how runtastic has helped you –  we love hearing about our users’ successes!

runtastic User of the Month October: Philippa Moore

Our new User of the Month is Philippa Moore from London. Have a look at her passion for running and discover how why she is so motivated.

Philippa

Philippa

My name is Philippa Moore.  I’m an Australian living in the UK, just outside of busy, bustling London.  I’m 31 and have been running seriously for about three years.  Prior to that I got involved in triathlons and other fitness activities to maintain a 4 stone weight loss.  I spent my early twenties very unfit and overweight. I couldn’t even get up stairs without being out of breath.  Finally something in me snapped, I dug deep and sorted my life out.  In 2011 I ran the London Marathon. Today I continue to enjoy long distance racing while maintaining the award winning healthy lifestyle web site Skinny Latte Strikes Back, which has details of my entire running adventures!

- How long have you been using runtastic? Why did you start using it? Which apps?

I have been a runtastic user since February 2012.  I’m not a very technical runner and don’t get too bogged down in all the stats, but when training for long distances you do need to have some idea of what distances you’re covering and in what times.

I started using it because I had just bought a new Blackberry phone and I did a bit of research and found that runtastic was a highly recommended running app for Blackberry.  I started out using the Lite and then upgraded to Pro.

- How many times per week are you using runtastic?

I use it every time I train, which is 4 times a week.  I do need to remember to charge my phone for the long runs!  ;-)

- Did runtastic change your life / your health / your sports or fitness habits?

runtastic has definitely improved my training experience.   It’s so satisfying to have accurate data for my training and to see what distances I’ve covered and in what time.  I like the GPS map component, so I can see where I’ve been!

- What do you think about the runtastic fitness portal/community?

I think it’s fantastic that there are opportunities to share your stats and progress with other users if you need motivation to stay on track.  I also like how there is lots of support in the help forum for any issues you might have, or any ideas you want to share to make runtastic even better!

Congrats Philippa and we hope you will have even more fun by running with runtastic.
